Thoughts Before the Mission Trip – Heath
Just like Colin I can’t believe that the Malaysia Worship Tour begins in 9 days! This summer has flown by and things have come up that have tried to get us down, but I know that this is only the enemy trying to discourage us from what God has for us. God has put us together as a team and prepared us for the mission. I have learned throughout the preparation stage that this is not a trip that I can plan, but only can be done by God. Support has flown in out of nowhere and the chemistry of the team is phenomenal. I have come to realize that this trip is not about me and all about the people who we will reach in Malaysia. This trip is no accident and I know that not only will God teach the people we come into contact with, but the team and I will grow as well. I pray that I stay humbled as I help lead in worship and teach others the real meaning of worship. I know that God has been preparing the hearts of the people there in Malaysia and I can’t wait to see what God does throughout the Malaysia Worship Tour! Please keep me and the team in your prayers as we are reaching people on the other side of the world. Acts 1:8 is a great reminder because it says, “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth” (NIV). I can have confidence because God is giving us the power to be a witness “to the ends of the earth.” God bless!

Thoughts before the tour – Colin
I was looking at my calendar this morning thinking I had three more weeks till the tour so I downloaded the countdown widget for my desktop and this is what it said.
A lot has been happening in the past couple weeks, a lot of ticketing, a lot of phone calls, emails throughout the day. God has been pouring out his blessings to us too, we’ve been receiving donations every day or two. Little by little, it has now brought us this close to the tour. Just 10 days! Thankfully with how my summer has been set up (living off a suitcase for the whole summer) I don’t have to pack!
Spiritually though, I’ve been in my ups and downs but I’m reminded constantly that it’s not all about what I get, it’s about my desire and pursuit for Him. The main focus now is however, bringing God into our music, actions, words, and thoughts throughout this tour.
It’s been a struggle with a couple of the team members dropping out due to personal issues, it haunts me every night that we might be letting a lot of people down with our small capacity, and that we might be doing enough for the people. But the truth is, a lot of us try to come up with a solid proof plan thinking that everything will be go smoothly and when we fail or falter we get dissapointed and discouraged. That’s not how God operates though, the plan is His, the fight is His, the love is His, the motivation is His, and if we plan and don’t leave room for God at all then we’re just going into battle with nothing in hand. I’ve learned that its not about our abilities, but its our capacity for Him to work through us.
Philippians 4 :11I am not saying this because I am in need, for I have learned to be content whatever the circumstances. 12I know what it is to be in need, and I know what it is to have plenty. I have learned the secret of being content in any and every situation, whether well fed or hungry, whether living in plenty or in want. 13I can do everything through him who gives me strength.
In this passage, Paul was not just saying that with God anything is possible. There’s a greater power than putting God on our shoulders and asking him to join us in battle. The power comes through submission to him and being content in His powers, mercies, faithfulness and love.
This tour is Yours lord, it’s for Your kingdom, for your Glory. So I ask that you empty our cups so that we may serve you like humble servants, waiting for your orders and obeying your commands. For what do we have, if we don’t have you? Our words would be empty and bitter for we are people of unclean lips, our actions are only seeking to bring pride to ourselves.

41 Days till the tour! How can you help us?
Hey guys, we have exactly 41 Days left before the tour begins! I thought I’d let you guys know more details about our tour so you can pray for us in specific ways, unique to how God will work through us this summer.
*prayer items
1. Plane Travels
We’ll be leaving the United States on July 6 and arriving in Kuala Lumpur on the 8th – total travel time – 39 Hours. We’ll be flying through three different countries. All of us will be meeting in Los Angeles from home and we’ll fly together to Malaysia. Our friend, Gabe, will fly to us on the 19th so keep him in your prayers as well. In Malaysia, we’ll be flying through three different states, starting in Sabah in East Malaysia and then to the capital Kuala Lumpur and we end on the island of Penang. That’s just the beginning of how crazy this tour is going to be!
*customs, safety, layovers,delays,cheaper air fare,preparation of our hearts and minds, Gabe.
2. People
We’ll be meeting so many people! The fact that we are in Malaysia where the people are diverse, we will be able to travel around and minister more. In East Malaysia, we’ll be worshipping with the locals – Bugis, Kadazan, Murut, etc. Also, we’ll get to work with Indonesians from Kalimantan (Indonesia) who migrate to Sabah. Not to mention, there will also be Chinese and Indian families in the local churches.
In West Malaysia, through the connexion ministries (our college student ministry), we have the opportunity to impact the world! Believe it or not, but people from all over come to Malaysia for higher education. We have about 6 connexion houses that are located just blocks away from the campuses where students would meet weekly. As I was in it for a year, I came across Africans from Nigeria, Ghana, Tanzania, Kenya, Madagascar, Uganda, Zimbabwe & Zambia, students from Asian countries such as China, Vietnam, Thailand, Cambodia, Laos, Brunei, Indonesia, and Myanmar. We’ve also had students from middle eastern countries like Afghanistan and Iran.
These are the students that are going back to their countries after they graduate in Malaysia! Imagine how God can work through them.
And don’t forget the Malaysians themselves!
*communication, teaching of the Bible, relationships built, openness of their hearts.
3. Venues
We will be playing in the local churches in small towns to big cities, churches in the villages and plantations, the “Connexion” Conference which I mentioned about earlier where all these students will gather, colleges around west Malaysia, and houses where these students meet.

4. Culture
Based on everything I said earlier, oh it is going to be a giant melting pot of cultures. Different foods, languages, traditions and customs.
* Understanding, passion, FUN!
5. Finance
And yes, based on everything I said earlier as well, there will be a lot of money involved but no amount greater than our God. We still need a good amount for some of our air fares and traveling expenses. Trusting that God will provide is not an easy task. We are constantly discouraged and we often feel defeated by the pressures coming out of this tour. We need your support, your encouragement, your companionship, your prayers. Raising money has also been harder because of our busy schedules in school and the economy hasn’t helped much either.

March 5-7, we had an amazing opportunity to serve and promote the MWT at a D-now weekend down in Statesville, North Carolina.
After our classes, we packed all our stuff into Heath’s and Justen’s cars.. (Picture alert!, we love you Justen) and off we were to Statesville.
Arriving late, we dispersed and half the team went to their host homes and started their bible studies right away! The theme for the weekend was Sequence. I believe the question was what our response should be to when we put our faith in a Sovereign God and that is we surrender in total. Whitney & Esther got to live with a group of girls and became their counselors and facilitated the lessons and bible studies. Gabe, Clay & Justen got to do the same, except that it was a crazy bunch of boys which only means more fun.
The following day, Heath, Ethan and I went to Front Street Baptist to set up our equipment and ran the necessary errands, we were the responsible ones, period.
After an amazing lunch prepared by Ethan Miller, we got to hang out with all the students at a middle school gym where we just played games and had TONS of fun.
Saturday Night…
All in all, it was an amazing night for many reasons..
- We got to see 15 students make The Most Important Decision and they chose to Surrender.
- We got to lead worship as a team together for the very first time
- We got to pray and grow together spiritually as a team and I believe I can speak for the team when I say this, we’re pretty good at this loving each other thing
- MWT IS GONNA BE AWESOME?!?!
Sunday Morning was another amazing day, the church of Front Street Baptist came out and we got to worship together as a body, pretty sweet.
Conclusion? It was nothing but LEGIT.
Thoughts
You guys may know this, but to those who don’t, several churches have been bombed in Malaysia in the past weeks. This raised some concerns in me that this trip might not make it this year but then again, the bombings could be the greatest thing Malaysian Christians can ask for. Christians have been growing steadily in Malaysia since its beginnings, surely but really slow. With Malaysia being one of the few countries in the world that claims to operate on interracial assimilation , the pressure has always been on to portray a peaceful and harmonic community with all ethnic groups holding on to their customs and traditions and showing one another respect and tolerance. This however created in each race, a strong bond to their own traditional religion ( Malay with Islam, Chinese with Buddhism, Indians with Hinduism, etc). Now that’s not how Heaven looks like in the bible does it?
The identity of Malaysia has made christians – comfortable about their faith, facing no persecution, until now perhaps.
In China between 1898-1901, The Boxer Rebellion took place. It was called the “Boxer” because there was no word for Kung Fu in English, funny how it still isn’t. These chinese men initiated a missionary massacre and attacked anything “religious” from China, which automatically affected all foreign connections, leaving the Qing Dynasty weakened only to be overthrown by the Communists several years later.
This created a cold, structured, robotic and closed country. But our God is greater. The long term results for this was to create a nation desperate for truth and love, its cup was emptied to be filled again. That is why China is now the world’s second largest christian nation with 80-100million believers, thousands getting baptized daily, China has the potential to be a real Christian nation.
With the current persecution in Malaysia, this could be a chance of revival … and we could have just signed up to be at the frontline like King Jehosaphat’s army. God has already begun His work in Malaysia, we just have to go.
